Ok, here it is. If you have a Cougar and have been down the track post to the forum and I will add you in. 1/4 time takes precedence over 1/8 mi time in list. 1. You must be an active member of MercuryCougar.net with a minimum of 50 posts. 2. Car must have run the time within the last few...
Hi everyone, I inherited my Dad's old truck, it's a 67 one ton dually with a 352 FE with a hard to shift 4 speed, both tranny and rear end seem geared super low. It's been in the family a long time, my Dad bought it brand new before I was born (1970). It's towed some pretty heavy loads (boats)...
I bought These heads back in 05, before I knew as much as I do now. Will they support a 393 as is, or do I need to sell them, and get the next size up? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-51400002/
Picture of the wrong. And the correct, for reference. I screwed the title up, why can't we edit titles? I guess I should learn to proofread before hitting submit.
I have an RPM Air Gap on my engine and it has two locations to draw a vacuum. One is directly under the carburetor and the other is in the runner going to the cylinder on the rear of the driver's side. Does it matter which location I tap into for my vacuum supply? Thanks. Dave
Just wondering if anyone has come across an aftermarket (cable) shifter that will fit my stock (console) shifter location? I've got a '69 XR7 w/ Cleveland,C6
Hi there, I need help and information please. I have bit of a story but trying to give you guys as much information as possible. I have a rebuilt AOD and been running it a while now. It is an AOD early model (non electric) and has had the First gear from 2.40:1 to 2.84:1, and Second from...
Well, this is what happens when you push a late model block to the limits in a road racer.. Looks like the Cougar is on the shelf for a while...
I understand that the my 1970 Cleveland came with 11:1 compression ratio, and unhardened valve seats. I know that the Edelbrock heads available will give me the hardened seats I need to use unleaded gas, but will they also by any chance lower that compression ratio? I will swap out pistons if I...
I want to put a 429 in my 68 and just wanted to know if anyone could tell me how much of a pain it will be and what parts I would need like oil pan manifolds ect.
Is there a way i can simplify my engine bay? I want to yank out all of the unneccassry vacuum components and clean up the engine. What vacuums lines do i NEED to keep? Im getting just a simple chrome air breather. oh and its a 1973 mercury cougar xr7 351c. like i said i want to simplify bc...
I'm looking at buying a '67-'68 Cougar in the near future and want to install a T-5 transmission. Several years ago I bought a T-5 conversion "kit" for the '68 Mustang coupe I had at the time. I didn't end up installing a 5-speed in the Stang before I sold it, so I still have a pile of brand new...
Who has done the block clearance steps for a 408 stroker crank? I have a tool and instructions coming but wanted to touch base with someone who has actually done this and see what tips I can get.
Factory explorer rear ends have disc brakes 4.10 or 3.73 gears trac loc and 31 spline axles. Shorten the long side and use short side axle and install new spring pads. I had to use 1/4 spacer to fit 15 by 8 magnum 500s. Also made subframe connectors out of 4 by 4 tubing and a band saw.Fits and...
Was at the auto parts store Saturday. I asked how much they get for cylinder head work. He said $28 per hole and $41 for surfacing. How does that compare with what other places charge.
The pic of my buddy Keith's 71 Mach 1 pulling the front wheels with its 460-based 484-inch stroker/ FMX trans combo is now officially incorrect. The 484 broke. The 4" stroke offset ground cast crank cracked diagonally through one of the the rod journals. Can't find another cheap 4"...
I like to post stuff so y'all can check it out. Few people in this world know what this stuff really is or isn't. I include myself and the seller in the group that does not know what this stuff is. ...
Have had this car for one year. Got car to race with the intention of only having to put in a motor/trans. Liked the fact that it was alreay torn down and gutted so I wouldn't fell so guilty cutting up a classic. Unfotunatly the work that was done to it by previous owner was not up to my standards....
1:Will my headers from my 289 work on 94 351w roller cam block? From some posts I have read online I see people saying no If this is true what are my options for the correct headers. 2: I picked up an oil pan guy said would work on 289-351w but it dont the the ends where it goes over the crank...

Need to take my 69' in for tranny service, and a few more things that I don't have time to deal with right now. I recently got a deal on an Edelbrock intake (Performer), and carb (1406 i believe)(shout out to "idrillforgas&oil"). I was thinking of having the shop I'm taking it to install the...
Im looking at getting a super charger or possibly turbo. What are the pro and cons? Here is one I found on ebay. ...
Ok I basically put together a Edelbrock top end kit and I just need the cam as the final piece. I was looking at getting the Edelbrock 7121 they suggest on their top en 302 build. Anyone have this cam in? Also does any one have this kit in their 302? Are the HP specs listed correct? Or I go...
i AM THINKING ABOUT RESTORING A 71 RANCHERO SQUIRE WITH A 351. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE SO IT CAN TOW MY COUGAR ON A TRAILER? IS IT POSSIBLE? tHANKS.
it seems i have settled for an fmx transmission from a late model ranchero. here comes the question! im looking at a shift kit by trans-go, (fmx-3) and it says "full manual control" does this mean that with the correct shifter id be able to shift from first to second and second to third like a...

5.0L 4V 412 HP MUSTANG CRATE ENGINE http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=11829 I thought that this was pretty cool. I know its been done before with the 4.6 motors, but this would be a decent swap for about $8000 with alternator and engine cover and California...
Went to Norwalk for a weekend of Ford racing, hung out with Dragcat. We had a great time, weather was a little more to be desired. Blistering hot and some rain, but good time and lots of Cougars....Tim
I just got my '68 back together with it's new 390. The engine has a lot of performance upgrades including forged pistons, aluminum heads, intake and water pump, 850 Holley, msd, plus tons of machine work. It runs pretty well, but I believe that it has a lot of potential that, so far, hasn't been...
I got my friend to finally take his 70 Olds 442 to a show with me. Out of over 600 cars, there was only one other Cougar there and no less than 10 442's. Anyways, on a few 69-70 Mustangs and some of the older trucks, I noticed that they were running just electirc fans with no belt driven fan blade....
Im thinking of going with a Edelbrock Performer Carb and Intake (4 Barrel) as well as some hedman headers. Any sugestions on a cam, heads setup to keep me under my 2000.00 range? Any good kits out there that you guys can vouch for? Also any one have that nifty dyno software out there that could...
How many of you guys have switched to HEI distributor cap and rotor and what benefit is it to do so besides the more choices in wires. 68 302 4v.
665HP. Pretty cool. Apparently it is a tractor pull event. Neat use of a Cleveland. http://www.network54.com/Forum/119419/message/1279554337/Rob%27s+Garden+Tractor+weekend
I have a 67 Cougar with a "well worn" 289 and C4 in it. Its worn to the point where I have the PCV and oil cap vent plumbed to under the car since it has so much blow by. The dream list involves a TCI torque arm rear suspension with a posi 9" rear, the TCI front suspension to make some room in...
Any body thought about using the replacement led lights in place of the 1895 bulbs that light your dash or is anybody already using them and if so do you like them,am considering getting some since I need to buy some bulbs anyway and it would not cost much more than the regular 1895 bulbs.
I have had this car since i was 17. It had a 302 in it that I blew up back then and installed a 289. I then upgrade to a 460. It had it's share of floor rot so i decided to install 2 X 3 rear frame rails and a vette rear. Dare to be different. I then decided the front shock towers were a drag...
I'm looking for some help with an issue I've encountered with a Ford racing crankshaft balancer. I purchased a Ford Racing 392 stroker crate motor to replace my worn out 69 351W 2V. I plan on using all of the 69 351W V-belt accessories but I've encountered an issue with mounting the original...

For the past couple of months I have struggled with performance issues on my 1970 Cat. 351-C. This car idles horribly. When put in gear it usually promptly stalls right out. Last year it ran great. The idle screw has to be turned in quite a bit to keep the car running and even more to keep it...
